I am uncertain of the status of school corporal punishment in China in 2002.  Was it still legal then or did your school turn a blind eye to the law.  Was caning used very frequently please.  That seems likely if you were given a very severe (by UK standards at least) 7 strokes for the relatively trivial offence of not doing your homework.  Was it a mixed school, and if so were girls also subject to caning please?

Nowadays in China corporal punishment is not used very frequently, it is illegal but students would choose to ignore because it’s not very severe. And in our cases the caning would not be so hard and the sting lasts for just a while. This is my first and only time subjected to caning. Cases that girls receive corporal punishment is rarely seen and they would just receive some light strokes on the pulm of hand.

Thank you for your response.  It is good that school corporal punishment is now banned in China, but perhaps not so good that it still sometimes happens as you indicate.  It is certainly the case that some  students here in the west have often preferred the quick corporal punishment and its over and done with to more prolonged alternative punishments such as detention.  In those circumstances illicit scp can and does happen unless the law is rigidly enforced.

Corporal punishment is of course a long cultural tradition in China.  Quite recently there was the case of the bank (I think it was) employees lined up and beaten on stage for poor performance by a professional motivator of some sort.  In front of a large assembly of their colleagues during a company conference I think.  The video was all over the web.

Some years back one of our contributors was much given to linking television historical dramas from what I think was a Chinese site.  In them there was a great variety of what to western eyes were strange hats worn by important people to indicate their importance.  There was also a lot of paddling, in which people who offended the important people were secured in a prone position and beaten on the bottom with very large paddles.

Often there seemed to be an elderly male and a young woman who found themselves simultaneously in this unfortunate position.  As an elderly male myself I recall posting in mock indignation that usually the bottoms of the elderly males were bared for the punishment whereas the young women punished along side them retained their clothing.  In western media it would of course have been the opposite way round!

Even further back this Forum had a number of posts from a contributor who I believe was from China and who was a prodigious collector of the then common surreptitiously filmed by student mobile phones videos of school corporal punishments from around the world.  He used the name ‘Glassmaker’ or something similar.  The sheer variety of areas of the body which were targeted by SCP around the world  was amazing.

Mr Briscoe was clamping down on pupils continually forgetting their homework and 2 classmates and myself paid the price,we all had to bend over together in a line,each of us received the full 6 before sir moved on to the next boy,i was last in line which was a bad place to be as i had to listen to the other boys reactions to the slipper,i howled same as the others,as 6 hard whacks roasted my bottom

I remember in sixth grade this was the only time that I saw Miss Armstrong with a paddle there was a girl that was always talking in trouble in our room her name was Lauren Harrington. Armstrong pulled a paddle out of nowhere and grab Lauren Harrington and went out the back door to the outside. I still recall listening for the paddling but you couldn’t hear it through the thick door later that day Lauren Harrington was in tears on the playground. And of course I was right there to watch her cry and listen to her talk waiting to hear her talk about her spanking

I was slippered by Mr. Hislop by mistake , I was at the end of a line up of boys of my age group (TEN) to give him a message from my teacher, after the last boy had been slippered I went up to him and he said John Touch Your Toes and I obeyed  I did try to tell him of the mistake I was told keep quirt and still or I would get six ,  he gave me three stinging hits with the slipper then he said punishment over up you get, back to class ,  My bottom throbbed with the sting as I went back to the class.  I told teacher what had happened as my eyes watered.   Later Mr Hislop came into the class  called me out and said he was sorry about the mistaken slippering !

Hello Bripuk ,  I was only ten and it was the first time I was told to touch my toes by Mr. Hislop ,  Some of the boys who were slippered before me were crying I think about ten boys had been sent to him to be punished with his slipper, As you can guess I was nervous when I touched my toes  He turned up the end of my blazer the first whop hurt The second whop hurt more , the third  whop hurt even more and my eyes watered I had a struggle not to cry as I went back to my class.

Hi John. I wasn’t introduced to the slipper until I reached secondary school( A boys grammar school). Most slipperings were given by the PE staff who had a wider disciplinary role in the school. For example they were responsible for good order in assembly before the arrival of the headmaster and during break times together with the prefects. Any misdemeanour would result in having to report after school for the slipper – an old size 11 rubber soled plimsoll. Invariably shorts would have to be donned after which the prescribed number of whacks would be applied to your bottom. These would be administered with full force from a young fit PE master and would leave a very painful raised welt on your backside which would turn into a bruise. Usually 3 or 4 boys would be dealt with and it wasn’t much fun watching your fellow victims have to bend over knowing that your backside would soon be the object of the teachers undivided attention. Personally I thought it hurt more than the cane but the marks didn’t last as long.

Like briuk I wasn’t slippered until I was in senior school. I received no CP in junior school. I remember the first time very well. it was in a French lesson. The whole class were bit fidgety and the teacher had us all standing up and sitting down in sequel for a time. Somehow I  manage to get out of sync with the rest of class sitting when I should have been standing and so forth. My desk was towards the back of the room so the teacher didn’t notice at first. the rest of the class noticed and laughed and the teacher then spotted me standing while the others sat.
I was calledthe front. None of the class had been punished by him before so I was unware of what was about to happen. The class suddenly became silent. As I reached the front he opened a drawer in his desk and took out a big plimsoll. I suddenly realised what was about to happen. There was no telling off he just told me to bend over his desk. I don’t really remember being too scared. I’d had a few spankings at home before but nothing in school. Back then both school and home CP was the norm.
The slipper whacked down across the seat of my short grey school trousers. It took my breath away but I didn’t squeal. It whacked down three times. Then I was told to go back to my desk. My backside ached and throbbed for the rest of the lesson and the class were all very quiet.
The French teacher used the plimsoll a fair few times on boys in my class over the next year. I tried my best to avoid it again from him but one lesson two of us were caught chattering. We were both called to the front and I watched from close quarters as the plimsoll whacked down on the other boy’s bottom then it was my turn! The plimsoll hurt much more than being spanked at home but at least I kept my trousers on.
