Your extensive research has hopefully finally put to bed claims by the few deniers that the SCP on girls was very rare. I was also interested to note that in your most recent data , that, when the implement of choice was the slipper, it was applied to the bottom .And by a male teacher. I am personally of the belief , from my own research and information over many years , that the slippering of female bottoms in school was much more common than many will admit although in the majority of cases the punishment was probably more demonstrative than painful Perhaps even tending towards being light hearted especially when applied by a male teacher,

It is very sad to note that you have reported instances of pupils being struck with a cane on the back, breasts and arm. As you opined this was probably due to teacher frustration caused by a non co-operative pupil but this should not have happened . Obviously the teacher would have been most reluctant to admit that he or she had lost control of the situation but sometimes a referral to the Head is the only way forward..

I am reminded of one of the many anecdotes , some very amusing, provided by a now sadly departed friend who was a teacher all of his life and finally a deputy Head . He stated the desirability to :know the individual mindset of each of your pupils especially regarding their likely reaction to the receipt of CP .This especially applied to girls or boys of either a very timid or a very aggressive disposition.

Another superb effort I, Researcher. For me, Clare at Hodgson wins the competition for being punished with the most unusual instrument. A green hosepipe, no less. Just what you would expect a teacher to have to hand. Quite late too for use of CP in school and across the bottom. I wonder if the fact that she is the only one mentioned at this school is significant. Do you have any more details of the school or this intriguing  incident?

I can’t imagine the girl being punished with a length of green hosepipe being recorded in an official school corporal punishment record book. An unofficial school punishment perhaps but not one to go into the record book. That said there is no doubt that a great many unofficial school punishments happened and went unrecorded.

Changing the subject somewhat, we must remember that back in the 1950s/60s when most of I, Researcher’s excellent research refers to was the time when many parents used spanking at home too. Whilst many schools had some rules about how SCP could be carried out there were no rules about how parents could punish their children. Fortunately most parents were sensible and had regard for their own children. Whilst there were many who never used spanking at home but there were some that overdid it to the level of it becoming abuse. Some parents must have approved of SCP provided it was fair and deserved but I’m sure many didn’t approve of it at all. However back then parents didn’t have much say about its use.
So I’m sure that many of those in I, Researcher’s list were also spanked at home. I was spanked and slippered a few times at home. That stopped when I was around 11 or 12 but but I felt the plimsoll and cane at my grammar school until I was in the fifth form, 15/16. I’d be interested to know how school and home punishments compared for other youngsters of that era.

Regarding the green hosepipe treatment here is the exact quotation from Clare:

‘I remember a science teacher called Mr Parkinson who used to make you sit on the edge of the stool then wack your bum with a piece of green hosepipe – for no reason! Just because someone else had done something wrong!’

Furthermore, a lady name Janet recalls similar treatment from the same teacher, but with a different implement

‘Mr Parkinson regularly just hit people with the edge of the board ruler before most lessons. He made you shuffle back on the stool then went round the whole class. After that, you couldn’t concentrate as your backside hurt. How we accepted ritual abuse.’

Last but not least, another lady named Adele remembers:

‘mr parkinson also had a really long perspex ruler that he used to whack us with! Lmao’

I would be flabbergasted, if these were documented.  My guess is that Mr Parkinson was a kinky teacher on his way to retirement and simply trying his luck under the guise of a more jocular punishment.

I think it would be a really interesting study to compare SCP stats to home punishments, especially the timeline. Based on the graphs provided by AlanTuringBletchley. It currently suggests a rapid decline of the amount of SCP used for those born around 1966/67 and later.  My guess, and it is purely a guess based on personal experiences is that if we had a graph for home punishments, it would follow a similar pattern, however, the curve being perhaps 10/15 years later.

I don’t honestly know when spanking at home became no longer the social normality.  Sometime in the 1990s perhaps?  However, just like with SCP timeline, I’m sure it was in a decline well before this point.

Like lansallos I am intrigued by the experience of Clare at Hodgson. Especially as there appears to be no other recipients in your research at that particular school.

I am also most interested  in what you refer to as the “implied “caning of Christine’s bottom  at AWT .Particularly as the other reported incidents at that school were hand canings

I also wonder if the bottom caning and leg slapping   teacher at Longshaw was the same gentleman each time.  I base this on my own primary school experience where one male teacher (not the  headmaster) was effectively the sole practitioner of CP other than a very elderly female who vigorously slapped the upper arms of the boys and occasionally the  upper legs of girls…..almost a reverse of the sometimes adopted practice of bottom caning for boys and hand caning for girls.

Of limited interest was something that   came up in discussion recently regarding a fairly local school.  It seems that when his son, then aged 11,  was allocated a place at the school  circa 1975 he received a letter saying that the school did use the cane and other milder forms of CP and that it was assumed   the parents were agreeable to this although   it went on to say girls  were NEVER caned .  Of course presumably that may not have been a guarantee that they did not receive “milder forms of CP”

Many years ago (in the 70s) I had spoken to several senior pupils of that same school  who were cadet members of a local dinghy sailing club. I gather some boys had been caned on the bottom and a girl also claimed she and another girl had also been given 3 strokes of the cane on their bums for smoking .  Having regard to this  letter  one can only assume (a) the letter was incorrect,  (b)  the girls was lying or (c) she was exaggerating perhaps having received 3 whacks with a slipper or hand.

I’ve just a brief revisit to the Hodgson Secondary group and there is evidence that Mr Parkinson did also use SCP on boys.  Furthermore, perhaps I did him a partial disservice due to a mistaken identity as lady named ‘Charlotte’ recalls:

‘wasnt it Mr Brooks Rural Science teacher -he had a “greenie meanie” ( length of hosepipe) to keep us all in order’

This supported by Maureen who states:

‘omg I remember greenie meanie lol wouldn’t be allowed today’

Prompting a further response from Charlotte:

‘and Mr Parkinsons acrylic 6 inch wide ruler he got u to slide your bum over your stool while he whacked you with it once for every question you got wrong on the weekly test !’

Later in the same thread Charlotte also remembers:

‘Mrs Shire frightened the living crap out of me !! She once made Carl *******  jog on the spot at the front of the class while she rapped his knees with a ruler if he didnt bring them up high enough – she had pale steely eyes’

Consequently, it appears that it wasn’t just the male teachers that applied bizarre punishment methods.

I must also note that this facebook group is very active, with a discussion SCP related discussion being launched just 8 hours ago.  Perhaps more accounts will surface.

In regards to Longshaw Juniors you are correct in that it was the same teacher (Mr Armistead – Headmaster) who administered leg slappings and the bottom caning.  My guess is that his Modus Operandi was to slap legs for minor infractions and reserve the cane for what he deemed more severe.

Janet recalls when she:

‘Got the cane at longs haw juniors though for playing truant and playing with matches from Mr Armistead. On the bum as well – perverted!’

In another thread she states:

‘Also Remember getting the cane from mr Armistead – both me and Pearl ****** for bunking off school and playing with matches – was a rebel then’

For the time period (late 60s) and the nature of the offence, it could be argued that this was a just punishment.

Finally, regarding the letter stating that boys could be subject to the cane but girls not.  That could be correct as I have encountered many schools where this appeared to be the case.  However,  policy can quickly change and it only takes one kinky teacher.  Furthermore, the school may have just been trying to demonstrate equality.
