I, Researcher:  I am pleased to hear that you are interested in home discipline back in the 1950s/60s. I was a bit sceptical about raising the subject here. I believe that you are correct about it continuing into the 1970s/80s much in line with SCP. There are, however, no records of it unlike the school CP records. We are aware that the school records varied great but at least some records do exist. Many parents, I guess, used similar methods to what their own parents had used on them when they were growing up. A proven system perhaps!  Like some schools some parents never used CP on their children.

Like families themselves how they spanked in various ways enormously. Some were quite organised while others spanked on the spot. Very few parents ever bought something particularly as implements for spanking. I’ve read of hardware shops selling punishment canes never never saw any on sale in the 50s and 60s. Slippers and belts were used in many families as did wooden spoons and table tennis bats, etc. Many parents slapped youngsters’ bottoms from a very young age with slaps increasing from just single slap to an over the knee bottom spanking. Both boys and girls were treated very much alike at home.

I knew that my two girl cousins were spanked by their mother who had been some some of temp teacher during WW2 when many male teachers were called up. This was in the 1950s/60s. Moving on in time a friend of mine spanked and slippered  his sons in the 1980s. I remember him once being late picking me up for a lift to a meeting one evening. He apologised for his late arrival saying that he had cause to slipper one of his sons. They were a lovely family, well educated parents and a pair of happy sons. My friend was a food factory manager and his wife a doctor’s receptionist.
I was spanked and slippered at home by my widowed mother. That stopped when I was about 11 or 12. I was aware that many of my friends were punished at home in a similar manner. I was caned and slippered at grammar school right up to the fifth form. Sixth formers weren’t totally exempt from the cane but it was rarely used on them.
Going back somewhat further I remember visiting Blists Mill village in Ironbridge. In one cottage there a group of us were being shown around a Victorian kitchen. The guide, in Victorian costume, was pointing out various items. There was a razor strop, a leather strap for sharpening old cut throat razors hanging on the wall, As he pointed it out he said that in many homes those straps often served another purpose. A lady in the group of visitors said “I remember that well. Others in the group laughed and seemed to agree with her,
As we have seen, from I, Researcher’s posts, school punishments varied a great deal but home discipline varied far more.

I apologise that I initially failed to response to your request regarding  the “implied “caning of Christine’s bottom  at AWT.

Christine was responding to a gentlemen named Phil who remembered:

‘Smoking in the bike sheds. It was 3 on the backside. I think there was 4 of us that got punished’

Her response was:

‘I think I might have been one of them I always got caught haha’

Draw your own conclusion on that one.

Sounds pretty conclusiveness to me at face value. Although very slim chance that she might have been just be speaking in jest.

Interestingly the fairly few number of girls/ladies I have spoken to over very many years who have admitted to being or have claimed to have been caned on the bottom at school have almost always claimed the offense was being caught smoking.  I accordingly assume that in some schools that the tariff for being so caught (for this no doubt considered serious offence)   applied to both sexes.

I am sure like me you must have been a bit disappointed  with the limited discussion your latest    awaited contribution has  produced..

We certainly need more posts here but it is what newspapers used to call the silly season when there was little real news available. I recently tried to move the topic towards family/parental spanking of the same era; 1940 – 1970s but with no great response.

Yours was a good attempt but it may be that the few active contributors  we have  do not have examples or memories to share.

I was born in the mid 40s but actually have little actual knowledge of formal CP being received by my contemporaries  Normally it was a few cuffs and slaps about the body in the heat of the moment.  I have previous mentioned that I was aware circa 1970  of a previously widowed lady  who had married an acquaintance using  a cane on her 2 sons aged 11 and 12.

I also recollect seeing a friends  younger sister (aged around 13) having  her legs smacked by her mother for being cheeky . She was sitting in a chair at the time and her mother just pushed her dress up an smacked her on the tops of her thighs in situ.

So not a lot    to report by me  and I am actually inclined think that formal CP of Children  in the 9 to teenage age group by their parents during that era may have been the exception rather than the norm. I am excluding of course the odd playful spanks sometimes administered by uncles.

The only other possibly relevant non school CP of a formal nature I actually know about is a 15 year Sea Ranger who was reliably informed soundly spanked on her bare bottom OTK by her Leader (a lady of both middle age and class)  after repeated threats.  I was in the vicinity at the time and of a similar age to the young lady but did not obviously actually witness the incident .But have no doubt that it occurred,   I have given details of this in at least 2 previous posts.so apologies for mentioning it again

I am inclined to agree with you about the majority of older youngsters not being spanked by their parents after they reached senior school age. This was something that diminished over the years. Of course  SCP continued for senior school youngsters right into the 1980s but also on a  lesser degree over the years. As I have said previously my knowledge of girls receiving CP by their parents or in school is very scant.

I, Researcher please keep up the good work.  I do hope though that you may be able to do some research into school noys being spanked and caned by women teachers. That is a subject that fascinates me.  Many thanks.
