Next on was my clip-on earrings and a splash of Chanel perfume.

I checked myself in front of my full-length mirror, adjusted my skirt so that my stocking tops were properly covered, and grabbed my handbag before heading for the front door.

I stood and listened for a while to make sure none of my neighbors were coming or going and when I heard nothing made my move.

I made my way down the stairs carefully trying not to let the metal tips of my heels click too loudly and when I got to the front door, I paused quickly to make sure my skirt hadn’t ridden up – all was fine.

Anxiously I opened the door and quickly looked up and down the street to make sure no one was about and stepped outside.
