No one said anything.

We knew we had set up far too close to the house, but since we were hitting in the opposite direction we thought all would be safe.

It didn’t take too long for Paul’s mother to come out.

She walked the short distance towards us and looked up at the broken window.

We all liked Mrs Winters.

She always had cold drinks and snacks for us when we played there and she gave us great treats at Halloween each year.

Mrs Winters was frowning but she did not appear too upset.

“I did it, Mother,” Paul said ” I am so sorry.”

” You all should know better than playing ball games this close to the building,” Mrs Winters said.

“It will be very expensive to get the window fixed,” she continued.

All five of us stood there feeling ashamed of our actions.
