Found guilty of robbery with violence

Three men found guilty at the Old Bailey, London, yesterday of robbery with violence and stealing an attaché case containing £409 were each sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment and 10 strokes of the birch. They were Peter Richard Hill (28), lorry driver; Frederick Thomas Rice (24), motor driver; and Robert Bingham (22), lorry driver, to whom the Recorder (Mr Gerald Doeson) remarked:– “It is just as well that you and others like you should realise that even snatching from the person is violence. If you think you can do that without risk of being whipped I will inform you that you cannot.”
