I may have mentioned this before , but in about 1980 I was playing cricket in London in a midweek afternoon game , and a couple of our players were about 16. One of these lads told me he had just been caned that morning by the either Head or Deputy. He told me that in no circumstances was I to mention this to his father who was coming along to watch the game later on. I would not of course have done that .
Later on I spoke to the other 16 year old about canings at his school , and he said that this guy used to take a run up, and it really hurt . I have to admit that I thought he was exaggerating , and perhaps , as Mike Weston says , just took a shuffle.
