I’ve said on other sites my first cover post two weeks in a tough secondary….sorry comprehensive,( they got a new nameplate), taught me never to scoff at the teachers really on the front line, demoralized, yes, overuse of the cane, certainly, good learning environment, never…….OK, I came away conscience clear. I’d survived two weeks and caned nobody. There wasn’t anything to boast about, I could see the light at the end of the tunnel….if you were there 24/7 who am I to judge? Mind you I’d broken other rules…..locked windows to stop them being jumped out of…..locked a class ( of teenage typists on general studies……) in whilst I went to retrieve books….when if I’d but known, all I really needed was Prof. Lewis to help me encourage students to co-operate, observe their success ( stealing from Woolies? Selling ciggies? Concealing knives?) and punish intelligently. I’m sorry give them photocopying to do and they’d have pawned the machine…
