So that’s my background in a nutshell. My social conditioning would certainly not lead me to the conclusion to ‘ beat’ them into submission. However, I’m not a total pacifist either. Again for my first few years, I probably was , I was, as I said, to use the colloquial, a wimp, I wanted to blend into the wallpaper, but when , in due course one of the school bullies set his sights on me , on the advice of a female teacher, ( who did warn me to be prepared to take a caning, but it would get him off my back).I pounded him. hard enough to ensure neither he, nor his cohorts ever picked on myself or my mates again. I’m not proud of it , but perhaps we can assume at some level he learned I had red lines he must not cross, well not if he wanted to keep his head on his shoulders!……… In those days (70’s) the staff did Nelson’s eye job , though some were astounded at the fact I won!. Of course today I would have been suspended and sent for anger management training……
