I think ( and this returns to my socialization) one advantage of school is that whilst their kids can push the boundaries, even step over them ( because the grass is always greener on the other side) they can do so without any great ‘risk’ and without any penalty attaching itself to them forever ( unlike say TWOCING for which you will eventually get a record and locked up ).

But my point to Prof. Lewis is by all means try to talk positively to kids. Treat first offenders, where they recognize they’ve stepped over the line, and are genuinely contrite, with understanding and leniency …but make it clear there are sanctions and these will be used. We don’t inhabit the Garden of Eden.
