Then we have SCHOOLING. This to me is something entirely separate from education . Of course the goal of schooling is education , but the school implies a mode of learning, and a social organization. I suppose originally discipleship or , one of a group of equals. It is from this concept that equality springs as a driving force. For whilst working with an individual we cane tailor and adjust our interventions to a myriad of degrees and modalities., in the school there is a group ethos, and the interests of the group take a certain precedence over the individual .
For example, many students may commit an offense , immediately recognize it, and in both their eyes and in the eyes of their teachers , will have no appreciable risk of committing that again. That wouldn’t go for everyone in a class, but to use a real well known case, it would certainly have held for say , Shelly Gaspersohn.giving her swats probably for her would achieve precisely nothing, the behavior was out of character and the modification , ensured in the act of being ‘found out’.
