Recognition that 6th-formers should be exempted from this entirely. Once they pass the age of 16, they must be allowed to be adults-if that means they automatically become part of the punishment Establishment, so be it-freedom may mean more responsibility, it usually does.
Absolutely couldn’t agree more. The problem is in England with the raising of compulsory education age limits there is a real risk that the advances in these years made over the last 30 years may be snatched away, after all is attendance is compulsory , the sanctions will become so also. The government who still see the revolving door approach haven’t thought this through at all.
This is something where we can learn from the Ststes that this ‘compulsion’ approach just doesn’t work
