I have seen small bore guns suitable for boys advertised in Victoian and Edwardian copies of “Boys Own Paper”. Shops which sold toys, model railways , sporting equiment etc. also sold fishing rods and guns as these were “sports goods”. I know of one such shop in a city near me that was still doing this until about 1980. Everything from a Dinky Toy to Shotgun under one roof.
Another issue is that of knives. When my father was Boy Scout Master in the 1960’s, every scout had a sheath knife on his belt. There were never any knife fights, no one even dreamed of it.
What is really happening is that Anglo-American society is coming apart at the seams and as D.H.Lawrence wrote “No man dare throw a firebrand into the Darkness”
