Once I restored order – dispatching our bully to my office to wait for me, and escorting our prefect to the infirmary despite his protestations that he wasn’t hurt (‘the bleeding will stop by itself’), I asked him why he’d got himself into the situation – and he quoted the two first lines of the little catechism above to me.

I think boys get that our prefects are there looking out for them far more than they are getting them into trouble. I also think it amuses many of them that prefects have to supervise Friday detentions.
