Mr. Byrd, former headmaster, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in May for cruelty and assaulting pupils.
The tribunal sat to consider Mrs. Byrd’s appeal against a decision of the Department of Education to bar her from being a proprietor of any independent school.
The college also appealed against an order that it should be struck off unless she ceased to be a proprietor.
It was started at the tribunal’s hearing that Mr. Byrd hoped to qualify to teach in a state school on leaving prison. He had also lodged an appeal.
Mrs. Byrd said yesterday that the question of a further appeal was being considered.
