On February 28, 1913, four boys, aged 11, 12, 7, and 9, were reported to him as having conducted themselves in such a way that it was impossible to control them except by resorting to corporal punishment. Accordingly, with the consent of the parents of the boys, he administered corporal punishment by striking the boys on the buttocks with five strands of thickish strong – the same instrument with which he corrected his own son.
