The alleged libel, which appeared in an election address and leaflet issued by the first two defendants, made allegations about the plaintiff’s punishment of four boys in the Camberwell Infirmary.

Yesterday an apology was made on behalf of Mr. Hardwick, the third defendant, and the record was withdrawn against him upon terms.

Mr. McCall, K.C., and Mr. A. Neilson appeared for the plaintiff; the first two defendants appeared in person; and Mr. A. H. Forbes represented Mr. Hardwick.

Further evidence was given to-day on behalf of the plaintiff, a number of nurses from the Camberwell Infirmary being called.
