He went on: “Evidence has been obtained which reveals that wholly excessive violence has been used at this school in the guise of proper punishment. The boy named in the first charge was struck a number of heavy blows with a clenched fist in the face. The boy named in the second charge was violently caned with an Army swagger stick which cut into the flesh, leaving wounds on him.
“The third boy was stripped, thrown into a pond on the orders of the accused, taken out of the pond and thrown into it again. This was on a March evening. He was then made to run through nettles and brambles and on stones and thrown into the pond again, whereupon he collapsed.”
