I have no knowledge as to what the boy had done or as to his age – whether 12 or 16.Nor do I know whether he was content with an apology being given to his parents. Prima facie the Headmaster’s action would appear to constitute GBH or ABH, and had I been the victim I would have wanted my parents to have called the police with a view to having him charged. Had they failed to do so I would have waited until reaching the age of majority – which was 21 in 1962 -and called the police myself even if this delayed any proceedings until 1969 or 1970.I would not have let him get away with his criminal behaviour.
