I attended from july 1953 till jan 1960. Aged 8 and a half till 15.
Corporal punishment was the norm in this school and I was caned on the bare backside several times.
the stick across the hands were also a milder punishment, for such trivia as being late (for anything).
I once remember that the whole of the house(Belvoir) was lined up along the main corridor outside the headmasters study and each given 2 strokes on each hand in turn, because someone had done something but no one would own up to it. This involved some 80 boys.
