Reintroduction in England isn’t going to happen any time soon, and almost certainly will never happen. If however, it did come to pass I think that careful checks and balances are necessary, of which the absolute minimum is proper investigation prior to punishment, a right of appeal, and regulated and witnessed the application. Further, I think the age range where school CP is reasonable to use is limited. If a severe punishment like the cane is used I’d say age 10 minimum, age 15 maximum. I have misgivings about its use for girls, but if equality legislation made that essential I believe that there should be no cross-gender punishments.
