The dinner ladies that patrolled the playground (not the same that made us eat our dinners) were very popular, especially with the girls.
Most dinner times a gaggle of girls could be seen collected around the dinner ladies.
There was a bit of a sour-faced grumpy one that no one seemed to like but in general, the ladies were friendly, ready to join in games and not overly given to shouting or getting cross.
They did of course have to maintain control and order, sometimes threatening to tell the headmaster about naughty behaviour and would occasionally make a badly behaved child stand and face the wall for a few moments.
