In those days it was common to see many boys swimming naked in the local lake by my house. People use to walk past and nobody took any notice of the fact the boys were nude. At home, some houses still did not have a bath, and boys were bathed in a large copper hip hath in the kitchen. People were always coming in and out of peoples houses and would see the boy. Those that had baths needed mum to wash their hair. There was none of the nonsense that after about nine boys should not be seen nude by their mothers that exists today. Nor was the policy that requires certain degrees of privacy in showers at school like now. All the boys just showered in one big area. It was common for boys to see each other naked, they often played in the lake together naked, they were seen naked by their family and were seen naked both by people they knew and those they did not know. It was just good discipline and common that the bottom had to be bared for effective and fair caning.
