However, when did you hear an English person of her era refer to being a ‘straight A student’ or to only misbehaving in ‘recess’? She says she was at school in the 1950s. So was I, and we hadn’t even heard of the now all-pervading American High School culture in those days. A ‘straight A student’ was a swot and ‘recess’ was playtime!
