When my father attended the school the class teacher kept a small cane that they would pass to the child and order them to cane themselves! If the cane I came across was the same cane my father had to whack himself with it had been hanging around in that cupboard for fifty years. In that case I would not be at all surprised the slippers used in my day are still to be found in the depths of the desk drawer.
