In State schools a high percentage of girls’ schools operate a non CP policy. Where girls attended co-ed schools, the ratio of caning between boys v girls was usually lower for girls, but every boys’ school, with few exceptions, adopted CP , so why were we singling out boys with a must have cane policy, was it assumed essential to discipline even if used sparingly, or, was tradition playing a part?
Because virtually every informed and experienced teacher was aware of the simple reality that the cane worked with a great many boys and hardly ever did them any harm if used appropriately. They also knew that it worked far less effectively with girls, and was more likely to do harm.
