This idea that a punishment has to be used in all cases to be regarded as a punishment for a particular offence is quite ridiculous.
I would expect it to be used in the majority of cases to be so considered – not the minority. In many schools, I could have smoked; played truant; swore at teachers; carved my name on desks; wandered where and when I wanted; in general do as I please – all without fear of getting the cane. Can it truly be said that, in such schools, the cane was the punishment for any of those offences?
I’m told I’m expressing a “typical woman’s view” and that men don’t want these rights. I wonder why so many men are claiming them, then?
Why are so few might be a better question.
About 30% of sex discrimination actions are being brought by men – that’s quite a “few”.
