Where the problems really arise is when certain pupils appear to be treated more leniently than the rest. Those pupils presume, often correctly, they can get away with anything and the rest resent that and rebel. If all are treated equally, no group seems to be quot;getting away with it” – they all consider themselves punished regardless of how lenient that punishment be in objective terms.
Dr D has stated he feels boys respond well to CP, that it can be a beneficial tool as an option.
In most co-ed schools where both sexes were liable to be caned for misbehaviour, more boys were caned than girls. That suggests the threat of the cane is a much better deterrent for girls – unless teachers were overlooking misbehaviour by girls.
