At my second school, on the other hand, I got the strap on my very first day. I went out of bounds – at my previous school, there hadn’t been any such concept, we went wherever we wanted during playtime as long as we could still hear the school bell calling us back in and when one of the older girls told me to come back I told her to go boil her head because I didn’t see what business of hers it was where I went. She went and told a teacher I was out of bounds and I’d sworn at her, and the teacher told me to go to the Headmaster and tell him “Double Red.”. I searched for his office, found it, and when I told him what I’d been told to tell him – just those two words, he advanced on me with his strap and told me to put both my hands out.
