It was called Secondary Modern Discipline by Richard Farley, and though (at that stage) Farley certainly believed the cane had a role to play, the book is largely devoted to finding other ways, including what were at the time, quite unorthodox ways, of getting boys onside and disciplining them. As it’s title suggests, Farley’s main focus in writing it were students in Britain’s secondary modern schools of the time, especially those from poor areas and disadvantaged backgrounds but it had much more utility than just that population. As I say I found it incredibly useful for privileged Australian boys from comfortable to wealthy families.
