For me, the answer is no. On the one occasion I was caned I had said something as a teacher passed by which, I suspect, he misheard. He took me directly to the Deputy Head. I could guess what was likely to happen, the DH caned frequently. After a lecture, during which I was given no opportunity to defend myself, he told me to put my hands on his desk. “I’ll give you two,” he said. The room was small and he squeezed himself around his desk. Then there was a whirr, and a dull thud, repeated immediately. It was not painful, but rather uncomfortable. Actually I was rather disappointed.
