On one occasion I thought the cane was going to be painful and it was very much so. On another occasion heaven knows what I was thinking at that time but had I been capable of a sensible thought (in which case I wouldn’t have got caned anyway!) I would have thought and indeed known from experience the cane was very painful. I did not find it to be painful therefore would have to say no, that time the cane was not as painful as expected. Hence my yes and no answer!
