The short answer to the question is “no”. If anything I was rather disappointed! On the one occasion I was caned I was taken to the Deputy Head so had no opportunity to prepare myself. After a lecture, which was probably more effective than the caning, he said “I’ll give you two”. I was told to put my hands on the desk. He moved round his desk and pushed up the hem of my blazer. Then there was a whirr and a dull thud, followed immediately by the same. I was told not to talk about it and dismissed. It certainly wasn’t as painful as the slipperings our PE teacher gave us on the one layer of PE shorts.
