I used to know an old man, who was a boy at a private “prep” school during the 1910s/1920s. He was a friend of my parents and died at least 25 years ago now, but used to come round to our house a lot after he was widowed, as my parents had befriended him and his wife when she was alive. This would have been in the early 1970s when I and my siblings were children. He was known to us as “Uncle Reg”. He used to tell us stories of his days at school. It was a public (i.e. private) “prep” boys school. As it was a prep school, it catered for boys up to about age 11 or 12, when they would move up to a senior public school, like Harrow or Rugby
