your uncle was right when he terrorized you with tales of Edwardian headmasters dealing out the kind of canings that would these days get you sent down for life. Of course, I wasn’t around at the time but close enough to hear feedback from others who claimed they were. Even back as far as the 30s and 40s-the 40s being my period at school canings were pretty horrendous to the least. Six of the best then meant six of the best.
