The problem when then the cane was banned, there was no substitute put in place and detention, and expulsions existed. Maybe there was a good case then, for retaining the cane, only as a last result before expulsion and nothing more, bearing in mind the huge increases in the numbers of children, suspended or expelled today. For a few, it may have been enough of a deterrent.
I don’t think the politically correct were as much to blame for the cane’s demise as those who had the authority to use it, whose overuse or abuse of such, was as an easy option for them.
CP in schools will never return, Personally, bringing back a few old-fashioned family values, and parents who are prepared to discipline their children, its a start that may go somewhere to sorting out some of today’s youth.
