I notice that the “one smack on back of leg” is administered by a different teacher to the one who did the others. I wonder if this entry was more in the nature of an “incident report”. Master Barker was mucking around in Miss Smith’s class; Miss Smith got mad and slapped him hard across the back of the leg; and then, being a good teacher, recorded what she’d done in the book. Makes more sense than an “execution style” slapping — sent to head teacher, wait outside study, severe telling off and then — oh horror — smacked on the leg.
