I went to in the late 70’s girls and boys got caned on the hands. The Deputy Headmistress, who was generally considered to be a bit of nasty old witch by boys and girls alike did all the girls caning and whilst it was much rarer than for boys it most certainly did happen. The only time I was caned at this school (2 strokes on each hand aged 13) she was present, as was my year head who was also female. The other (male) Deputy Head gave the caning but I am pretty sure that no male teachers where ever present when girls got caned.
