Speaking from personal experience. I went to very ordinary suburban schools in the 60’s, in both infants and junior schools female teachers would give you a good hard slap on the back of your legs. One young woman teacher at junior school would leave finger shape bruises.She was also adept at creeping up behind you and pulling your hair. Boys and girls would get hit in front of the class, you could expect one on each leg or more if you moved.The headmistress would often give boys never girls the cane but only across the hands.Boys often told stories of being smacked on the behind but by mothers never by female teachers, although one particular matronly teacher would promise us sore bottoms unless we kept quiet.
