In the finish, the board of governors refused to let them cane boys anyway but my girlfriend told me that they were both both eternally grateful for the practice. Eventually, we left school and went to university and inevitably split up, although a few years ago I went to a school reunion and who was there but Sophie, she went bright red when she saw me and apologized for taking advantage of what she called my good nature and hoped that I had no hard feelings. It was something that neither of us had forgotten.
