Hand spanking was commonplace at my primary school in the late 1950s and 1960s.
Mainly applied to younger children in the infant grades, it was certainly not unknown in the upper school, although the use of a ruler was more usual.
Lady teachers were in the majority at the school, and so this type of punishment was by far the most widely used, and was, so far as I am aware, practiced by all of the women teachers without exception.
The male teachers mainly taught the higher grades, and used various implements of a more robust nature,for example, a dowel-rod or a strap.
The female teachers, as opposed to their male colleagues, were much given to exposing the bottoms of the boys for spankings. As we wore abbreviated little shorts to school, this was a comparatively easy task. Shorts and undies were simply pulled tightly up your bottom, exposing a good expanse of cheeks to smack.
