A smacked bottom in primary school (finishing in 1972) was a regular occurence. Someone called out to the front, or maybe a few lined up in a corridor and told to bend over. Sometimes the slipper but often just the hand. My first experience happened when I threw a snowball at the teacher on playground duty. He bent me over and smacked me on the spot. At grammar school lines, detentions and essays were more the norm for minor offences but certainly in the 1st form there were still a couple of teachers whos favoured method was to smack. It could be bending over in front of the class or kept behind after.
