I have been known to place my hand on the back of a chair that some sexist is attempting to move for me and say, “Hey, that’s my  chair, get your own!” That works best when I’m “tarted up” (as my husband would say) like the “little lady” I’m not.

I don’t think most men realise how demeaning it is to many women to be treated in this way. Equally, I’m sure some do and deliberately set out to keep us down.

Thanks for your comment on military etc., but STILL don’t see why Miss is seen as an insult in parts of the South ?

Nor do I really. At one time “Miss” was used for a girl and “Mrs” for a woman, married or not. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
