As I now realise , having taught myself, she would clearly be conscious that knowing me well she must treat us all alike, and especially give me no latitude that could be interpreted as favouritism ……….. Something she said to my table partner( we were in our newest classroom block with ‘tables ‘ for two) , I honesty can’t remember what ,but it was a minor reprimand which I thought a little ‘over the top’, and uncalled for Really forgetting where I was responded ( completely out of turn, but without any malice) ‘ Oh…..Jxxxxx( her Christian name ) ….surely not ; we’ve only just started…. ‘ .The classroom went silent…., she thought for a moment, and then grinned, and replied very sarcastically ,but light-heartedly , that perhaps before I offered her any more unbidden technical advice I might care to think on the inevitability of the ‘Texas’ solution to continued ‘sass’ ( the paddle) and how that would translate in this school……( I doubt anyone else in the class understood this warning!) ending the comment with my ‘shortened’ Christian name. She added ‘ or perhaps, if I’m to be Jxxxxx, I should call you by your nickname in the Country group how about it ‘cat’ ”
