We indeed have seen the slippery slope when an Orwellian intrusion will reach well beyond the classroom into everyone’s door. Every act of corporal punishment may soon be characterized as pedophilia the way things are going. I may be preaching to the choir here.

Many think that the American Way is strictly the Southern Way but that is not true. Even if corporal punishment is not practiced in home (my situation growing up) parents back up teachers within reasonable scrutiny. The latest posting from TWP from a school in Arizona (Southwest not South) attests to the wisdom of maintaining that option however infrequently it may be employed. In some of the lower grades spanking (open hand) and not paddling are the approved instruments of correction somewhat akin to what we have never had over here (slippering).
