Instead of the usual dismissal after caning me. He allowed me time to regain my composure and then proceeded to chat with me about why I had chosen to go to a sixth form college instead of staying on in the sixth form. He asked me what I liked / did not like about the school. He had become Headmaster of the school the year I joined and apart from my frequent visits to his office I knew him quite well through my father’s involvement in the PTA and through his introduction of week long outdoor pursuit trips to the Lake District and Wales and the like during Easter holidays which I always attended.
