If you didn’t take the caning you undoubtedly deserved then you would be expelled.
That is one of the things that makes it unfair to girls (Please note I said girls there, not boys.) to exempt them from the cane. Why should I have faced expulsion for failing to do lines/detention/whatever, given for some minor infraction when a boy would just get the cane for it?
The cane was used frequently and no one minded, not parents, not pupils. The punishment that you got was actually up to you. If you complied with the minor punishments all well and good, if you didn’t you were caned.
I can’t see how anyone can reasonably object to that.
It wasn’t the pinnacle of punishment. By not complying with the original punishment you actually opted to take a caning. The school didn’t mind, parents didn’t mind, and you clearly preferred to take a caning.
This is why I object to those (usually men) who want to deny girls that option.
