I think schools of the past educated in a more practical useful way and prepared one for real life.
Even in my “sink estate” sec mod, everyone left being able to do the three Rs.
Modern schools seem to fail on the basics while attempting to go beyond the basics in the hope of finding a few academics.
As for discipline we were not allowed to fail, we all did our best.
Not really from fear of punishment, more for fear of appearing thick.
No AHDS excuses.
