It probably happened to me about 20 or so times, during my 3 years there and although it hurt a great deal. Unless one was going to undergo a metamorphisis and become the perfect child, there was no escaping it. To me it has always seemed the typical junior school punishment and i bet you in the state sector junior schools, for every child that got a smacked bum, twenty children got their legs slapped.
this man was a disciplinarian with a capital D, he is still alive today. He got in lots of trouble with irate parents but being a big ba**ard he did not really care. Personally I liked the man but was a bit in fear of him. He never hit me but I was a rather good lad and if you behaved generally you were left alone.
I don’t think he was much different from most of the teachers. In fact I once saw a 9 year old girl get the ruler on her hand until the ruler broke, this from a female teacher!
