Shotton was found not guilty of one count of indecency with a child, and the jury could not reach verdicts on a further six counts of indecency with a child.
Judge Niblett said: “You have been convicted by the unanimous verdict of this jury at the end of this demanding trial on clear and compelling evidence of sexually abusing three schoolboys at the school at which you taught.
“The effect of your actions on the two older boys is all too clear. Sexual abuse can be, and often is, devastating to the lives of young people.”
The judge said Shotton’s actions had been an “appalling blow” to his wife and children, but that his crimes should not diminish the teaching profession.
Shotton was remanded in custody to be sentenced at a later date after a pre-sentence report has been prepared.
